Vegan Snack Review: Thrive by GoMacro + Giveaway

[Update: Contest closed. The winner is Melissa C from NY!]

I was super excited to receive a package of the new Thrive by GoMacro energy bars for review. I love getting outdoors and I *really love* planning my snacks and meals for my outings. Everyone knows, vegans love to eat and talk about what they’re eating! [Keep reading to find out how to win a 12-pack of Thrive bars!]

I had a quick hike planned with my friend Alex, up Hurricane Mountain in the Adirondacks, and these Thrive bars turned out to be the perfect snacks.

Thrive are all USDA-Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, Kosher, Gluten-Free Certified, vegan and soy-free. This package included two bars each of the following flavors:

  • Chocolate, Nuts & Sea Saltimg_5886
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip
  • Almond Apricot
  • Blueberry Lavender
  • Ginger Lemon
  • Caramel Coconut

They’re chewy, a little gooey and really, really yummy.

My favorite is the Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip. I’m a sucker for anything chocolate and peanut butter. Chocolate, Nuts & Sea Salt is my second favorite.

I was really intrigued in the Blueberry Lavender, because I’ve never had anything with this flavor combination before, and it was actually really good. Tastes just like it sounds… like blueberries and lavender.

Thrive bars are made of a superfood ancient grain blend, and were just the tasty energy boost I needed to get up the mountain.

  1. My husband and I have a trip planned to hike in Colorado this spring – these would be a great addition to our packs!

  2. The chocolate chip peanut butter sounds like it would be a great snack for my November trip to Big Sur!

  3. Why I’d take these on the basic adventure of life my friends! Keep a few in the Jeep when I’m running late and didn’t have time for breakfast, afternoon snack to hold me over to dinner, throw ’em in my pack whole hiking the Georgia loop (AT, Benton Mackaye, Duncan Ridge). Yep, I think would go everywhere I go! What a great team we would make!

  4. I’m a little shy of bars from a Whole Foods nutrition perspective so I’d love to try these and have them prove me wrong.

  5. I’d love some blueberry lavender (I’m a sucker for anything lavender!) and ginger lemon for my upcoming trip to Hawai’i — sounds like a good post-snorkel snack, and I’ll be sure to report if these flavors can withstand the heat in Volcanoes Nat’l Park. Have had the Macrobars (cashew butter is my favorite) on a backpacking trip in Yosemite before, and they were awesome!

  6. I wish I could say that they’ll be accompanying me at the next Ninja League or Spartan Race that I compete but most likely they will fill my lunch box to enjoy at the day job or a snack to take to the relatives over the holidays because they’ll offer little in the way of vegan. Family can be an adventure, right? 🙂

  7. I hike with my vegan teen daughter and her friends. These gals love having a variety of tasty snacks to share on the trail. I can picture them reviewing the different bars, in their wonderfully blunt, funny, and enthusiastic manner. Maybe they would let me try some too (a nibble).

  8. I’m hoping to do some winter hiking in Yosemite this winter and these bars would be a perfect take along.

  9. My adventures start every day the moment I get up with an active 2 year old. I plan my day around vegan, gluten free meals and snacks that we have to take with us (since we are in an area that doesn’t have a lot of options for vegan, gf foodies like us) 🙂 everywhere we go.
We are constantly searching for yummy, new, fun and different snacks. We love goMacro bars, and have tried a few of the thrive bars. It’s always great to have something new on hand!

  10. I could have used these on my backpacking trip this past weekend on a loop around Weaver’s Needle, Superstition Mountains, AZ.

  11. Trick or treat!! Just like you I love peanut butter and chocolate! I’m planning a Grand Canyon trek as of this morning and would love to “Thrive” on the trail with these bars! Thank you for offering a chance to win some tasty trail treats! Happy Halloween ?

  12. would pack these delightful pieces of awesome goodness in a day pack during my hike of the Watchung Reservation in NJ…

  13. I would take these on my next epic mountain adventure with my brother in BC! Every time I visit him we explore up a mountain, and soak up the beautiful sights, and share a little brother sister time in the forest. Fingers crossed that I can bring these treats along to share with him! THANKS!!!

  14. I live in St Petersburg, Florida so these would be great to take along for my walks on the beach or through the many wonderful parks and trails we have nearby. I can’t wait to try the Blueberry Lavender and the Lemon Ginger sounds amazing!

  15. I’m looking forward to some Coastal Beach camping and could use some food that fits easily in my bear canister.

  16. I’ll be hitting the Allegheny National Forest here in Pennsylvania soon, and these would be fantastic to take along.

  17. I’m planning to do some day hikes soon in the nearby mountains, and these would be great to take along! I haven’t done any hikes more than 5 miles or so yet, and would like to be as prepared as possible.

  18. I try to go on a new adventure weekly, working on finishing the six peak challenge in SoCal, down to two.??❤??

  19. These look tasty! I like to take hikes and there’s this trail near my house that I go up every morning. I would definitely bring these for on the go.

  20. I plan on eating these on my NE115 adventures. I have 46 more go in NH and all Maine still and hopefully these will give be my get and go to finish by journey

  21. Hoping to go to Yellowstone this winter! Guided snowshoe hikes to see winter wildlife. Should be incredibly beautiful AND cold, perfect for yummy snacks like these. Wish they had flavors this good in my local grocery.

  22. We are headed to a wedding in November in Maine and are camping nearby instead of the super fancy hotel. So excited!! Best part is that it’s a vegan wedding so we don’t have to worry about seeing lobster served (that’s what everyone expects in Maine). There’s already been snow there, so we will be packing lots of warm layers and food. The airline makes stoves difficult to transport so it will be all “cold” food. I’m pretty sure those ginger lemon bars would warm us up. GoMacro’s other line of Macro Bars has some really creative flavors too, check out the site everyone!

  23. I have always loved to be doing anything outdoors. Last year at 52 I discovered my love of hiking. Living near the adirondacks I have plenty of beautiful places to hike. I am always looking for good healthy snacks that I can take along on a trail. The ginger lemon sounds amazing! I like anything ginger. I have a goal to section hike the Appalachian trail in a year or two! I really want to experience life and stop being just a spectator!

  24. Here is how I would divvy them up:
-2 (1 for me & 1 for my boyfriend) for the flight to California for Thanksgiving
    -1 in my desk
    -1 in my purse
-2 for my next hike somewhere around the rainy PNW
-2 for the next person I see asking for food on the streets
-2 as backup food in my car
-2 for my boyfriend to take to work

  25. I’d like to hike the Blue Ridge Mountain segment of the Appalachian trial with Thrive in my pack!

  26. My next (scheduled!) adventure is volunteering with an organization that teaches girls about science and nature. We do some experiments and lessons indoors and then go on a big hike in the Rockies where we can put some of our new knowledge to work. Last time we met some mountain goats! Since it’s a nonprofit I don’t push the need for vegan food and am usually left eating peanut butter and baby carrots plus whatever I bring myself, which is totally fine with me for a good cause. Wow those Thrive bar flavors are amazing! I saw the ginger lemon and thought that’d be the most exciting, but then I saw the caramel coconut and blueberry LAVENDER! Thanks for letting me know about Thrive, VOA 🙂

  27. Winter is quickly approaching, might get snow today! 🙂 I would bring them snowshoeing to snack on. Thank you!

  28. Every weekend we go for a nice hike – either in the woods to a reservoir or up a nearby (small) mountain.
